Round Lake still undefeated in Holiday Classic

Diane Flade scored a game-high 13 points, and Round Lake's girls basketball team defeated Crystal Lake South 47-45 at McHenry's West Campus on Monday night to advance to the first-place bracket of the Northern Illinois Holiday Classic.

Samantha Nicoline and Giselle Raygoza added 11 points apiece for the Panthers (9-6, 3-0 tournament)), who next play on Friday night back at McHenry. Round Lake led Crystal Lake South 12-11 after one quarter, 23-22 at halftime and 34-29 after three.

"After two tough conference games last week, I'm very happy with how the girls have responded," Round Lake coach Molly Hennig said. "The seniors have really stepped up and been leaders to start the tournament."

Lakes 49, Woodstock 33: At Richmond-Burton, Sara Smith scored 12 points to the lead the Eagles in the Northern Illinois Holiday Classic game.

Ally Dietz and Kylie Jozwik each scored 9 points for Lakes (6-10, 2-1 tournament). Taylor Lehman scored 6 points for the Eagles, who jumped out to a 15-2 advantage after one quarter, were up 30-12 at halftime and 45-22 after three.

"We started the game with good energy," Lakes coach Brian Phelan said. "We moved the ball well on offense. We had balanced scoring. We defend well too."

Wauconda 57, Prairie Ridge 56: At Richmond-Burton, Mackenzie Arden hit a buzzer-beating bank shot to lift the Bulldogs in the Northern Illinois Holiday Classic game.

Allie Tylka racked up 25 points, 11 rebounds, 8 steals, 5 assists and 4 blocks for Wauconda (10-3, 2-1 tournament). Ella Karg added 15 points and 6 assists, and Arden finished with 10 points.

"It was another exciting game," Wauconda coach Jaime Dennis said. "A slow start got us down early. They shot extremely well from the arc and we struggled tonight. The girls battled back and we were able to get back into the game from the free-throw line."

Wauconda resumes the tournament at 5 p.m. Friday against Lakes back at Richmond-Burton.

Grayslake Central 40, Lake Zurich 33: Amanda Kocialkowski scored 10 points, and the host Rams won the nonconference game for their fifth win in a row and seventh in their last eight.

Maura Fitzgerald added 9 points for Grayslake Central (10-4), which held the Bears to 9 points in the first half.

Lake Zurich (7-8), which slipped below .500 for the first time this season, received double-digit points from Maddy Piggott (game-high 12) and Alayna Soukup (11). Ella Gilbertson had 8 points.

Zion-Benton 56, Antioch 47: Ranya Jamison scored 17 points to lead the visiting Zee-Bees to the nonconference win.

Antioch's Nayla Loos broke out of her shooting slump to score a career-high 18 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead all scorers. Freshman Avery Larson put in 9 points and grabbed 4 rebounds, and Rachel Phillips scored 8 points for Antioch (1-11). Despite the Sequoits' loss, coach Tim Borries said they "played tough throughout the contest."
