Zion-Benton tips Mundelein in last second

What's his range?

Clearly, NBA range on Conor Enright's 3-pointers. Or is that the longest shots the Mundelein sophomore takes?

"Half-court sounds good,'' Enright noted.

When the third quarter bell buzzed on Tuesday night, visiting Zion-Benton was in control at 41-33.

And then Enright and inside power Scottie Ebube went to work.

One of those NBA-range 3-pointers went in. Ebube (17 points, 13 rebounds) nailed a free throw in the final minute. This game was tied.

Zion-Benton's Amar Augillard then hit a floater with one tick on the clock and Zion survived the onslaught, 55-53, in North Suburban Conference boys basketball action.

"Scottie got us going with those dunk shots,'' Enright said. "We just need to keep our composure."

Ebube credited his team's defense for inspiring the comeback.

"Defense helped us,'' Ebube said. "We just need to be ready to play."

Zion's first-quarter lead was 14-9.

Enright's second trey of the night gave the Mustangs (5-4, 1-2), a brief 25-24 lead in the final half minute of the first half. Enright scored 12 points in each half.

Mundelein seemed to hit a brick wall in the third quarter. The Mustangs had only 8 points in the quarter and at one point, turned the ball over four times in a row.

Oh, there was that play in the first half that kind of stunned Enright.

"I got hit in the face,'' Enright explained.

Yes, he was wearing a shiner after that game.

Outside of a floater from Andrew Gonzalez, the fourth quarter comeback belonged to Ebube and Enright.

Enright scored on back-to-back plays in the fourth quarter. It cut the Zion lead t 46-42.

Zion's narrow win moved its mark to 6-2, 2-1.
