Schaumburg rallies in second half

Schaumburg's girls basketball team erased a 15-12 halftime deficit by scoring 19 points in the third quarter en route to a 39-36 win over visiting South Elgin on Saturday afternoon.

The Saxons raised their record to 4-6 with the nonconference win as Talia Torosian led the hosts with a career-high 16 points, including three 3-pointers.

The junior guard's previous best was 11 points against Elk Grove and Evanston this season and Hoffman Estates last season.

Freshman Alyssa Orozco (one 3-pointer) and senior Vicky Aguirre each chipped in 8 points for the winners.

Hampshire 40, Palatine 38 (OT): Visiting Hampshire edged the Pirates 6-4 in overtime to win the nonconference match. Leading the Pirates (1-7) were sophomore Kayla Miotk (12 points) and junior Melanie Simon (8), while senior guard Sarah Arnold converted the only 3-pointer for the hosts.

New Trier 49, Hersey 37: New Trier jumped ahead 17-9 after one quarter en route to the nonconference win at the Carter Gymnasium in Arlington Heights. The Huskies (5-5) were led by Emily Collins (10 points), Mary Kate Fahey (9), Maddie Jacobson (8) and Aya El-Fiky (6).

Highland Park 51, Wheeling 45: Host Wheeling (4-6) was led by Morgan Collar's season-high 20 points which included a pair of 3-pointers. The 5-foot-10 junior forward/center was 4 points shy of her career high of 24 points set against Leyden last season.

Junior guard Sophia Stanke also reached double figures for the Wildcats with 13 points and three 3-pointers while senior teammate Nosa Igiehon contributed 8 points in the nonconference game.

Conant 44, Cary-Grove 33: Hannah Shulman scored 12 points to lead the Cougars (4-6) to a nonconference win. Abbey DiSalvo added 10 points for Conant and Stephanie Mazurek had 8.
