Flade leads Round Lake past Maine East
Senior guard Diane Flade scored a career-high 23 points, including four 3-pointers, and Round Lake's girls basketball team defeated Maine East 48-33 Thursday night to improve to 2-0 in the Maine East tournament.
Freshman guard Taylor Major and senior forward Samantha Nicoline added 8 and 7 points, respectively, for the Panthers.
Round Lake resumes the tourney Saturday with an 11:30 a.m. tipoff against North Chicago.
Mother McAuley 54, Libertyville 48: At Hersey, the Wildcats dropped their season opener as part of the Buffalo Grove tournament, despite sophomore guard Lauren Huber's 12 points and 9 rebounds.
Junior guard Margaret Buchert led Libertyville in scoring with 14 points.
"We liked what we saw for our first game," Wildcats coach Greg Pedersen said.
Rolling Meadows 47, Lake Zurich 43: At Rolling Meadows, as part of Lake Zurich's Turkey Thriller tournament, the Bears suffered their first loss.
Down 16 points, Lake Zurich took a 2 point lead but fell late. Junior guard Ella Gilbertson led Lake Zurich with 21 points. Freshman guard Alayna Soukup and senior forward Maddy Piggott each had 6 points for the Bears, who host Cary-Grove at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
