Gallimore completes impressive run at Roosevelt

Antioch graduate Paige Gallimore has capped a standout collegiate career as the No. 2 all-time leading scorer for the Roosevelt University women's basketball team.

In her final collegiate game, the Lakers won on their senior night 82-49 over Trinity Christian.

Gallimore scored 14 points to finish her career with 1,802 points. She starred as an all-stater in basketball and field hockey at Antioch, where she earned leadership awards and was the 'Female Athlete of the Year.'

At Roosevelt, she was a four-year starter and captain the last two years.

She ranked 18th in the nation in scoring and 19th in rebounding for Division II and earned all-conference honors.

She will graduate in May with a degree in business communication.

Men's swimming

Illinois Wesleyan sophomore and Mundelein graduate Will Garcia recently enjoyed a big weekend at the RecPlex Aquatic Center in Pleasant Prairie, Wis. He was chosen as the Co-Swimmer of the Meet at the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin swimming and diving championships.

Garcia, who was the 500 freestyle champion on the first day of the meet, was the lone IWU men's champion on day three, winning the 1650 freestyle with a time of 16:22.24.

He also placed second in the 200 freestyle on a previous day.

Men's track and field

Augustana senior Kevin Barbian (Libertyville) was fourth (51-¼) in the shot put at the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Indoor Track & Field Championships at Carthage College. He was also fourth with in the weight toss (49-10).

Softball

Palm Beach Atlantic University senior pitcher Jana Wagner (Warren) is off to a solid start for the Sailfish. She's appeared in seven of their nine games (7-2) and owns a 3-0 record with 2 saves and a 1.19 ERA.

Women's swimming

Wisconsin-Whitewater freshman Jessica Lenhart (Stevenson) captured six All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors at the Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer, Wis.

Included in her big meet were three individual championships and two relays. Lenhart helped the Warhawks tie for their highest finish at the conference meet by placing second. She claimed the title in the 500-yard freestyle with a personal best 5:09.55.

She was part of the Warhawks' 400 medley winning relay (3:54.38) and was part of the 200 medley team that won with a season-best mark of 1:46.45.

Lenhart won the 100 butterfly by two-hundredths of a second (56.32) setting a career record and NCAA "B" cut.

She was also a member of the 800 freestyle relay that collected All-WIAC medals with a 7:47.42, only eight-hundredths of a second off the winning pace.

Lenhart claimed her third individual championship with a first-place finish in the 200 butterfly, collecting a NCAA "B" cut and personal record time of 2:04.45.

Women's basketball

Southern Indiana senior forward Morgan Dahlstrom (Grayslake Central) was named CoSIDA Academic All-District IV by the NCAA Division II sports information directors in the Midwest region.

An exercise science major with a 3.91 grade-point average, Dahlstrom is enjoying a career year for the Screaming Eagles. She is currently sixth in the Great Lakes Valley Conference with 16.9 points per game and leads the league with 10.4 rebounds per outing.

She has collected a pair of GLVC Player of the Week awards and currently leads the conference with 12 double-doubles. She has twice scored more than 30 points in a game and has scored 20 or more in a game six times this year.

A third-team All-GLVC honoree as a junior, Dahlstrom ranks 19th all-time at USI with 982 career points and is sixth with 704 rebounds. She needs just 18 points to become the 18th player in program history to reach the 1,000-career point plateau and the sixth USI player to reach the 1,000-point and 700-rebound plateau.

Women's hockey

Stevenson graduate Megan Bozek has scored 5 points in 5 games (1 goal, 4 assists) since signing with the Markham Thunder of the Canadian Women's Hockey League in January. The defenseman is an Olympic silver medalist and Isobel Cup Champion from Buffalo Grove.

Men's basketball

Recent college commitments were announced by Grant senior Mike Huff (Carthage College in Kenosha) and Mundelein senior Jeff Bikus (Hope College in Holland, Mich.).

Men's lacrosse

Augustana freshman goalie Joey Kreis (Mundelein) went the distance in the nets, recording 14 saves when the Vikings opened the season with a 14-8 loss to Albion at Detroit Country Day School.

Men's volleyball

Augustana freshman setter Ryan Hirschel (Libertyville) leads the Vikings with 383 assists and 15 service aces this season.

Niro III honored.

Barrington senior running back Ray Niro III was awarded the Chicago Bear Community Champion from the Bears and the National Football Foundation at Halas Hall last week.
