Antioch edges Lakes in regular-season finale

Jack Gillespie scored 19 points, Dan Filippone added 18, and Antioch defeated visiting Lakes 45-42 in Northern Lake County Conference boys basketball action on Thursday night.

It marked the regular-season finale for both teams.

Gillespie knocked down a 3-pointer and scored 7 points in the opening quarter in helping Antioch (10-15, 4-10) build a 12-5 lead. The Sequoits took a 24-20 advantage into halftime and still led by four (37-33) after three.

Lakes (12-17, 7-7) was led by Michael Behrendt with 10 points and Brad Cherry with 9.

Antioch's win avenged a loss at Lakes last month.

Sullivan 54, Vernon Hills 49 (OT): The visiting Cougars lost their regular-season finale.

Derrick Jones scored a game-high 14 points to lead Vernon Hills (6-20).

Libertyville 82, Zion-Benton 57: On Wednesday night, Drew Peterson had 26 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists, as the visiting Wildcats clinched a share of the North Suburban Conference championship with Stevenson and Warren.

Libertyville, Stevenson and Warren each finished with 10-4 records in conference play. It's the first title share since the 1990 season for Libertyville, which improved to 17-9 overall.

Chase Eyre added 16 points for the Wildcats. Josh Steinhaus scored 12 points and dished out 6 assists, and Brendan Cook contributed 10 points.

Libertyville shot 13 of 22 (59 percent) from three-point range.

Carmel Catholic 63, Joliet Catholic 39: The Corsairs took to the road and snapped an East Suburban Catholic Conference skid that dated back to Jan. 26 with a decisive victory.

Kimahri Wilson's 12 points led Carmel (17-10, 4-4), which also got 11 points apiece from Zion Kilpatrick and Johnny Roeser. Evan Myers had 9 points on three 3-pointers.
