Fenton's Benbow nets MVP honor

Fenton senior guard Amari Benbow has earned Daily Herald MVP honors for her recent high school girls basketball performances.

Amari Benbow, Fenton: The senior guard had a big day in the Bison's regular-season finale. Benbow poured in 19 points, grabbed 15 rebounds, dished 8 assists and pocketed 6 steals in the Bison's 80-54 victory against Elmwood Park.

Maesyn Benjamin, Hersey: The Loras College-bound senior guard helped lead the Huskies to their fourth Mid-Suburban League championship in program history. She played stellar defense and finished with a game-high 13 points, 7 rebounds and 5 steals as the visiting Mid-Suburban East champs defeated West champion Palatine 43-31 for a second straight league crown.

Margaret Buchert, Libertyville: A first-year player on varsity, the 5-foot-6 sophomore guard provided consistent scoring for the Wildcats all season. She finished the regular season by scoring a season-high 23 points (10-of-14 shooting from the foul line) in a 54-42 win over Mundelein. It was her 18th double-digit scoring effort.

Jamie Martens, Kaneland: Kaneland's 5-foot-6 do-it-all guard hit for a career-high 25 points on 10-for-12 shooting in a 61-50 win over 21-8 Geneseo, She added 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. She also had 16 points, 9 rebounds, 5 steals and 3 assists in a victory against Sterling.
