McCann's clutch shot lifts Lakes past Carmel

Logan McCann drained a jumper with 4 seconds left to lift Lakes past Carmel Catholic 65-63 on Tuesday in nonconference boys basketball.

McCann finished with a team-high 14 points and finished a comeback effort, as the host Eagles had trailed by double digits early in the game.

Also scoring in double figures for Lakes were Brad Cherry (13 points) and Leighsean Triplett and Michael Behrendt (11 apiece).

Evan Myers scored a game-high 22 points to lead the way for Carmel (16-9).

Lakes (11-15) has won six of its last eight.

Grayslake North 61, Vernon Hills 58: Down 24-23 at halftime of the nonconference game, the host Knights outscored the Cougars 23-5 in the third quarter.

It was the fourth win in a row for Grayslake North (11-13).

Vernon Hills fell to 6-17.

Barrington 54, Grayslake Central 33: The visiting Broncos held the Rams to 7 points in both the third and fourth quarter in picking up a nonconference win, which is their 20th victory of the season.

Mark Johnson paced a balanced scoring effort for Barrington (20-5) with 11 points. Jack Reinhard finished with 10, and Jason Boock and Miles Lester had 8 apiece.

The top producer for Grayslake Central (9-14) was Clay Stoffel with 7 points.

Warren 61, Waukegan 51: Branden Ellis scored 20 points, Barak Diehl added 13, and the visiting Blue Devils won in North Suburban Conference action.

Warren improved to 15-11 and 7-4 in the NSC.
