Niles North stops Prospect's streak

Niles North, ranked No. 9 by Associated Press in the state's Class 4A boys basketball poll, ended Prospect's winning streak at eight games on Saturday in a 58-40 decision as part of the Camp Horseshoe Shootout at Highland Park.

Jamal Stephenson and Damaria Franklin had 14 points apiece to led the way for Niles North, and Aquan Smart had 11.

David Swedura paced the Knights (18-5) with 10 points.

Prospect is scheduled for a nonconference matchup at Glenbrook North on Tuesday and will attempt to complete an unbeaten run through the Mid-Suburban East against visiting Wheeling on Friday.

Maine West 66, Vernon Hills 40: The Warriors rolled to a victory at home in Central Suburban North play, improving to 16-7 overall and 8-1 in the conference.

Maine West entered the weekend tied for the CSL North lead with Highland Park, which had its Friday matchup against Glenbrook North postponed to next week after it could not be rescheduled to Saturday.
