Ceneac, Jozwik lift Lakes past Antioch

Paule Ceneac scored a season-high 16 points, and Lakes' girls basketball team defeated host Antioch 43-35 Wednesday night for its second win over its district rival this season.

Kylie Jozwik added 10 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, as the Eagles improved to 12-16 and 6-6 in the Northern Lake County Conference.

"Antioch plays so hard and tough defense," Lakes coach Brian Phelan said after his team snapped a three-game losing streak. "We did not take care of the ball in the first half, but we did a way better job in the second half."

Antioch trailed 20-14 at halftime and 30-25 after three quarters but took the lead early in the fourth.

"We kept grinding and got the ball inside often and did a good job finishing," Phelan said. "Good conference road win vs. a rival tonight."

Taylor Feltner had 13 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals for Antioch (10-15, 5-7), and Rachel Phillips put up 10 points and pulled down 12 rebounds, 9 of which came on the offensive end. Piper Foote had only 3 points, but she had 5 offensive rebounds and 5 steals, while Kaitlyn Stay came off the bench to hit two 3-pointers.

"The Lakes shooters had the hot hand," Sequoits coach Tim Borries said.

Grant 63, Grayslake North 34: The host Bulldogs won the Northern Lake County Conference game for their fifth win in a row and second over the Knights this season.

The victory hiked Grant's record to 18-7 and 10-1 in the NLCC.

Grayslake North (10-14, 7-5) was led by Abbey Guenther with 6 points. Jordyn Gerdes and Savannah Guenther each added five.

Grayslake Central 72, North Chicago 29: Sophomore call-up Emma Stopka scored 12 points on four 3-pointers, Rosie Drevline added 11, and the host Rams cruised in Northern Lake County Conference action.

Grayslake Central (19-7, 11-1), which won its fifth game in a row, featured a balanced attack. Amanda Kocialkowski had 9 points, Kristina Heerdegen and Abby Tonkery chipped in eight apiece, and Kate Bullman contributed seven.

North Chicago fell to 0-11 in the NLCC.

Wauconda 46, Round Lake 39: Allie Tylka continued her strong play, and the host Bulldogs defeated the Panthers for the third time this season.

Tylka finished with 27 points (two 3-pointers), 18 rebounds, 6 steals and 2 blocks. The junior forward has scored 107 points (26.8 ppg) in the Bulldogs' last four games.

"Allie had another solid game for us," Wauconda coach Jaime Dennis said. "I can't seem to take her off the floor. She does so many good things for us offensively and defensively."

Elise Deaver added 6 points and 8 rebounds for Wauconda (13-11, 6-6), and Ella Karg had 4 points and 6 assists.

"Ella did a nice job distributing the ball for us," Dennis said.

Round Lake (7-19, 2-10) received 13 points from Courtney Greenwood and 12 from Griselda Martinez.

Wauconda made 11 of 17 free throws in the fourth quarter to secure the win.

"It is always hard to beat a team three times in one season, especially when that team is Round Lake, a team with a lot of fight in them," Dennis said. "They are aggressive and caught us off guard at times. We came up with the defensive stops when we needed to and hit some free throws at the end."
