King paces Stevenson's win at Mundelein

Sophomore guard Avery King scored a career-high 18 points, and Stevenson's girls basketball team defeated host Mundelein 47-29 in North Suburban Conference action Friday night.

The Patriots (13-10, 8-3) played without senior starter Kiana Cencula, who is out with a concussion suffered against Lake Forest on Tuesday, coach Ashley Graham said. Klaire Steffens added 15 points for Stevenson, which won for just the third time in its last 10 games. King sank 6 shots, including a 3-pointer, and went 5 of 7 from the foul line.

Mundelein (8-17, 3-8), which lost to the Patriots earlier in the season as well, was led by Morgan Frank's 14 points (two 3-pointers).

Lake Zurich 41, Zion-Benton 13: McKenna Zobel scored 10 points for the visiting Bears, who completed a regular-season sweep of the Zee-Bees in North Suburban Conference action.

Anna Biergans added 8 points for Lake Zurich (13-9, 8-3), while Ella Gilbertson and Maddy Piggott had 7 points apiece in the win.

Zion-Benton fell to 1-10 in the NSC.

Libertyville 69, Waukegan 30: Lydia Crow scored 14 points, including four 3-pointers, as the host Wildcats beat the Bulldogs for the second time this season in North Suburban Conference action.

Libertyville (12-11, 6-5) also got 10 points from Lauren Huber and nine apiece from Maddie Spaulding and Maggie Evers.

Waukegan fell to 0-11 in the NSC.

Vernon Hills 51, Glenbrook North 43: Kayla Caudle had 21 points and 16 rebounds, as the visiting Cougars won the Central Suburban League North Division game to complete a season sweep of the Spartans.

Daniella Jarrell had 8 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists for Vernon Hills (15-8, 7-1). Piper Bedell added 9 points and 5 rebounds.

Vernon Hills had leads in the upper teens in both halves, only to have Glenbrook North battle back and cut its deficit to single digits. The Cougars took an eight-point advantage into the fourth quarter.

"Every time we extended our lead, Glenbrook North would cut into that lead," Vernon Hills coach Paul Brettner said. "We needed to keep growing the lead and we just couldn't do it. Credit Glenbrook North for fighting back."
