Dundee-Crown pulls off FVC upset of McHenry

Dundee-Crown's girls basketball team came up with the Fox Valley Conference upset of the season Saturday, knocking off league leader McHenry 40-38.

McHenry came into the game with only one loss - to Burlington Central at Thanksgiving - and a 12-0 mark in the FVC.

"We played so well today," said D-C coach Sarah Miller, whose team was without injured senior starter Kennedy White. "I can't even explain how proud I am of the girls today."

Freshman Alyssa Crenshaw led the Chargers (14-8, 9-4) with 14 points and 12 rebounds while senior Maddie Tripp added 11 points and 11 rebounds.

St. Edward 78, Elmwood Park 26: Madison Knott had 18 points and Yssa Sto. Domingo added 17 points and 5 steals as the Green Wave (15-7, 8-1) won in the Metro Suburban Red. Haley Niehaus added 9 points, Mallory Rejman 8 and Mariel Franco 5 steals for St. Edward.

Hampshire 30, Huntley 25: Lauren Herrmann had 11 points and Kelby Bannerman added 9 for Hampshire (12-11, 7-5) in its FVC win, the Whip-Purs' fourth straight win. Sydney Novak led Huntley (6-18, 3-9) with 8 points.

Cary-Grove 45, Jacobs 40: Katie Sowa scored 17 points and Abby Getka added 10 to lead Cary-Grove (14-8, 8-4) to a FVC win, the Trojans' third straight win and sixth in their last seven games. Kerri Healy had 12 points for Jacobs (9-14, 6-7) while Courtney Paul and Kyra Cabusao added 9 each and Elizabeth Schwartz 8.

CL South 37, CL Central 30: Lauren Schoen's 14 points led Crystal Lake South to this FVC win. Brooke Kuffel added 10 points for the Gators (7-15, 2-10).

Westminster Christian 39, Hiawatha 24: Keely Frens scored 14 points to go with 5 steals and Elise VanNoord added 13 points to lead the Warriors (7-12, 3-6) to a Northeastern Athletic Conference win. Sophie Kovachevich added 6 points, 8 rebounds and 3 steals and Grace Schmitt had 9 rebounds.

Aurora Christian 37, IC Catholic 33: Tori Henning had 13 points while Alexandra Fry and Dannielle Lopez added 11 each to lead the Eagles (15-7) to this nonconference win.

South Elgin 59, Marengo 52: Alexis Roberts scored 14 points to lead the Storm (11-10) to a nonconference win. Catora Brown added 12 points for South Elgin while Megan McClure and Miah Galvin had 11 each.
