Boado leads Dundee-Crown past Prairie Ridge

Dundee-Crown honored Kendall Schmidt, Anna Kieltyka, Kennedy White and Maddie Tripp on Senior Night.

But, it was sophomore Payton Schmidt and freshman Gianine Boado who stole the spotlight.

Boado scored 20 points with 3 3-pointers and 9 rebounds and Schmidt off the Chargers bench tallied 13 to lift D-C to a 49-37 victory over Prairie Ridge in Fox Valley Conference action in Carpentersville Wednesday night.

"We certainly don't think of Gianine as a freshman," said D-C coach Sarah Miller. "We think of her as a varsity athlete. She was outstanding tonight and hit some huge shots. She is playing with great confidence. Payton gave us a lift off the bench giving us great energy on both ends of the floor."

Boado connected on 7-of-10 shots from the floor and 3-of-4 from beyond the arc.

"I just wanted to win for the seniors," said Boado. "They are great leaders and have helped me so much. I hit some shots early and it gave me great confidence."

Schmidt, who collected 5 baskets in 8 attempts, dealt out 4 assists.

"I just wanted to help the team off the bench," said Schmidt. "I wanted to push the ball up the court in transition and take the shot when I was open. I was glad to help the seniors win on their night."

The Chargers (13-8, 8-4) were able to seize control of the game in the third quarter.

Tied at 25, D-C went on a pivotal 7-0 run.

A 3 from White and putbacks by Boado and freshman reserve Alyssa Crenshaw pushed the Chargers to a 32-25 advantage with 3:22 remaining in the third quarter.

Dundee-Crown, which outscored PR 30-18 in the second half, grabbed its biggest margin of the game at 14, 47-33 after Boado's third trey of the contest.

"We talked at halftime about upping the defensive intensity in the second half and we did that," said Miller. "We worked well together on defense and forced PR into tough and contested shots. We were able to wear them down in the second half especially in the fourth quarter. We want to hold every opponent under 40 and with our second half defense we were able to do that. The seniors left it on the floor tonight and played with a lot of heart. We wanted then to make a memory and seniors did that tonight."

D-C, which committed only 6 second half turnovers, made 19-of-35 shots from the floor for 54 percent and drilled 5-of-10 from 3-point land for 50 percent.

PR (11-12, 5-7) which were hindered by 23 turnovers were paced by Nicole Dorn who scored 14. Karly Statter and Sara Wolf scored 8 apiece for the Wolves.
