Zobel, Lake Zurich zap Mundelein

McKenna Zobel's 8 points led a balanced attack, as Lake Zurich's girls basketball team beat visiting Mundelein 38-22 in North Suburban Conference action Friday night.

Grace Kinsey and Ella Gilbertson added 7 points each for Lake Zurich (11-9, 6-3), which completed a season sweep of the Mustangs.

Mundelein fell to 7-16 and 2-7.

Vernon Hills 58, Deerfield 47: The visiting Cougars finished the first half with a 10-0 run and went on to victory in Central Suburban North play.

Deerfield stayed close with some sharp play early in the third quarter, but the Cougars limited the Warriors to 3 points over the last five minutes of the period.

Kayla Caudle scored a game-high 21 points to go with 11 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks, and Daniella Jarrell contributed 10 points, 4 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals for Vernon Hills (13-7, 6-1).

"We played great defense in stretches of the game but then we would have some lapses," said Vernon Hills coach Paul Brettner. "Credit Deerfield for knocking down eight 3s during the game. They really made us pay."
