Boys swimming and diving: Barrington wins against host Rolling Meadows

Barrington's boys swimming and diving team stayed unbeaten against Mid-Suburban League competition this season by topping Rolling Meadows 122-64 on Thursday at Elk Grove.

The Broncos picked up 1-2 finishes in five individual events.

In the 200-yard freestyle, Jack Hoppe (1:52.12) and Tommy Wondrasek (2:02.04) led the way. In the 50 free, Steven Fischer (22.40) and Shawn Ujiiye (22.82) got it done.

Steven Latimer (227.30) and Brian Latimer (171.60) went 1-2 in diving. Following that example were Sam Burrell (50.44) and Brian Trees (52.07) in the 100 free and Daniel Langlois (5:05.86) and Dan Emary (5:06.04) in the 500 free.

Rolling Meadows got a victory in the 200 free relay from senior Josh Dellorto, freshman Sam Keeley, senior Nate Pardini and senior Jake Pors (1:33.53).

The meet marked a return to action for Pardini, back in the lineup as he continues to recover from a broken bone in his foot. He held a leg on Rolling Meadows' state-qualifying and team-record-setting 400 free relay last season.

It was also noteworthy for the Mustangs because of Dellorto's contribution.

A state point-scorer last year in the 100 freestyle, Dellorto competed in diving for the one - and only - time of his high school career.

"He came to me freshman year and asked if he could try diving in a meet," explained Mustangs coach Monika Chiappetta. "And I said, 'No way.' And then he asked me if he could try it when he was a senior, and I said, 'Sure,' thinking there would be no way he would hold me to it.

"But he really wanted to give it a shot, and a deal is a deal. So he went through with it, and I'm proud of him for having the perseverance to get it done."

Sophomore Boris Jevtic placed third for Rolling Meadows with a score of 154.05, and Dellorto earned a single point for his team with a fifth-place finish at 111.80.
