Zobel, Gilbertson lift Lake Zurich at Montini
McKenna Zobel scored 18 points, and Lake Zurich's girls basketball team finished up the ninth annual Montini Christmas Tournament by beating Oak Park 66-52 in the consolation third-place game Saturday.
Ella Gilbertson added 16 points for the Bears, whose point total represented a season high. Grace Kinsey and Brigid Ferguson had 10 points apiece.
Lake Zurich (10-8) finished 2-2 in the tourney.
Antioch 59, Timothy Christian 58 (OT): At Lisle, the Sequoits came out strong and built a double-digit lead in the first half of the Cage Holiday Classic.
But Timothy Christian answered early in the second half. The game was pushed into overtime, where Olivia Ori hit a 3-pointer with 8 seconds left to solidify the win. Ori finished with 14 points, 4 assists and 2 steals.
Taylor Feltner stepped up big in the second half, hitting 5 shots in a row on her way to a team-high 15 points to go along with her 6 steals. Piper Foote and Rachel Phillips each had 9 points in the win, with Phillips leading the team with 9 rebounds (6 steals), and Foote finishing with 7 assists and 4 steals.
Foote earned a spot on the all-tournament team.
"It was a strong team win," coach Tim Borries said after his Sequoits improved to 4-10 and finished the tournament with a 2-2 record.
