Dundee-Crown blows out St. Charles North

As the host school of the 35th Annual Komaromy Charger Classic, the Dundee-Crown girls basketball team was anything but hospitable to St. Charles North Wednesday.

The Chargers dominated in every aspect of the game in a 62-30 rout of the North Stars.

With the win, D-C advances to a consolation semifinal Thursday against Resurrection, which edged Buffalo Grove 59-58 earlier in the day.

"It was the first game all season where I felt we played a full four quarters," D-C coach Sarah Miller said. "We had contributions from everyone, which was really nice. We had three people in double figures and a lot of people with little things here and there."

All five D-C starters scored. Gianine Boado led all scorers with 16 points. The freshman was also credited with 4 assists. In addition to tallying 12 points, Alyssa Crenshaw nabbed 8 rebounds and 3 steals. Kennedy White also scored 12 points.

"Besides turning them over, we were patient. We got really good looks at the hoop and high percentage shots because we really executed our offense," said Miller. "I felt like we really had team offense and team defense - we set each other up for success."

"If there was an area of the game that you could track with statistics, they were better than we were tonight," said North coach Mike Tomczak. "Credit to them. They came out with a lot of intensity. They certainly played with an edge and we didn't have it."

In addition to scoring, D-C led in shooting (49-38), rebounding (23-21) and steals (11-4).

The Chargers (9-5) jumped out to an early 8-0 lead. North (7-7) finally scored on its fifth possession on an Anna Davern (16 points) basket. D-C led 16-3 after the first 8 minutes.

"I thought we had a super strong start on the defense and on the offense," Miller said.

Containing Davern and Annie Tate (8 points) inside was another key according to the Charger coach.

"We noticed when North lost in overtime to Maine South (Tuesday night) their entire game was second chance," said Miller. "(Tate) and (Davern) just empowered them on the boards so we really talked about part of our execution was keeping them out of the paint - no second chances."

The Chargers extended their lead to 31-15 at the half.

D-C did not let up in the second half, allowing the North Stars only 9 points in the third quarter while scoring 15 to take a 46-24 lead to start the last frame.

"We talked about coming out in the second half ready and we would have to keep both boards under control and outrebound them," Miller said. "We did a really good job of taking their inside game out which is one of their strengths."
