Dundee-Crown blows out Crystal Lake Central

After a pair of disappointing losses last week the Dundee-Crown girls basketball team bounced back in a big way on Tuesday night.

The Chargers got back on the winning track with an impressive 50-20 victory over Crystal Lake Central in Fox Valley Conference action.

"We really needed a game like this," Dundee-Crown coach Sarah Miller said. "This was a total team victory. Every player on the floor made a big contribution. We were just ready to go from the start and kept it going all four quarters."

The Chargers (6-4, 4-2) broke open the game early with a 16-4 run late in the first quarter and early in the second quarter to pull ahead 21-8. Senior Kennedy White and freshman Gianine Boado each had 3-pointers during the run. The Chargers as a team made 8 of 12 3-point shots in the game.

"We really focused on being patient," Miller said. "We had good movement off the ball. I was really pleased with our decision making and the way we made the extra pass to get the open shot."

White had 3 of the Chargers' 3-pointers and finished with 9 points.

"Anytime I get the ball in a good position I'm going to try and score for my team," White said. "We were just really working well as a team and bouncing off one another. We know we can be a great team and that's what we are working toward."

Boado, who is fitting in nicely on the varsity team as a freshman, led the Chargers in scoring with 10 points, including a pair of 3-pointers.

"We knew we had to start strong to beat this team," Boado said. "It's been fun coming from playing AAU ball and now being a part of this team. I always have confidence that my teammates will be there for me and they have helped me a lot."

The Chargers' stifling defense forced 24 turnovers.

"I've always said we thrive off good defense," Miller said. "We were able to control the tempo. They like to run the floor, but we were able stop their transition game and force them into more of a half-court game. I have a lot of confidence in our half-court defense. We play aggressive and we played really well tonight."

Central, which had won 3 in a row coming in, struggled mightily on offense. The Tigers (5-6, 3-3) made just 8 of 35 (23 percent) of their shots from the field. It didn't help that the Tigers' top scoring threat Madison Haslow was saddled with 3 early fouls.

"It hurts when your primary scorer is in foul trouble," Central coach Derek Crabill said. "But that's when other people have to step up and that didn't happen tonight. We were playing hard, but we just couldn't get any shots to fall."
