Vernon Hills get past Barrington
Vernon Hills' girls basketball team improved to 7-3 on Saturday night with a 48-40 nonconference victory at Barrington.
Piper Bedell led the Cougars with 17 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals while Kayla Caudle added 14 points with 20 rebounds and 3 steals.
The Fillies (3-6) received a game-high 19 points from junior guard Tori Meyer while sophomore Taylor Thompson added 11 points and senior Rachel Mori 5.
"Coach (Barrington's Babbi) Barreiro's teams always play hard and physical," said Cougars coach Paul Brettner. "It was good to see us match their physicality and play some very good defense."
Lake Park 66, Fremd 57: Sophomore Darrione Rogers scored 30 points with 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals for the Lancers (7-2) at the Naperville North/Benet tourney. Senior Carson Vance added 15 points and 3 assists while junior Kate Kirkham had 8 points. Fremd dropped to 7-4.
South Elgin 47, Schaumburg 36: Junior center Vicky Aguirre scored 9 points while Kendall Fredrickson and Kayla Patterson each chipped in 7 to lead visiting Schaumburg (0-10) in the nonconference game. Talia Torosian and Ariana Doroskin had 3-pointers for the Saxons.
New Trier 49, Hersey 37: Hersey (4-6) was led by senior Claire Rogowski (12 points) and freshman Mary Kate Fahey (8) in the nonconference game in Winnetka. Teammates Erin McGrath and Katie McGrath each had 6 points. Maesyn Benjamin and Fahey had 3-pointers for the Huskies.
Highland Park 53, Wheeling 39: Nansy Velev (12 points), Christina Pierini (10) and Chloe Drozdz (9) were top scorers for visiting Wheeling (7-3) in the nonconference game. Velev and Drozdz each tossed home three 3-pointers while Pierini had two and Morgan Collar one.
