Tylka, Kimbell lead the way for Wauconda

Allie Tylka and Po Kimbell each scored 13 points, and Wauconda's girls basketball team defeated host Glenbrook North 43-35 in nonconference action on Saturday.

Tylka also had 6 rebounds, 5 steals, 3 assists and 1 blocked shot. Kimbell sank four 3-pointers.

Wauconda (5-4) opened up a 15-7 lead after one quarter, but the Spartans were within 22-16 at halftime and 31-27 after three.

Wauconda outscored Glenbrook North 12-8 in the fourth quarter. Morgan Lung pulled down 5 defensive rebounds (6 total) and was a "good defensive presence inside," Bulldogs coach Jaime Dennis said. Lluvia Sanchez came in off the bench in the fourth quarter and provided "4 important points to stretch the lead," Dennis said.

Kimbell, Ella Karg and Kiley Szmajda each had 5 rebounds for Wauconda, which collected 20 steals.

"We were lucky to have a lead at half after struggling with turnovers again," Dennis said. "But we settled down in the second half and finished nicely."

Vernon Hills 48, Barrington 40: The visiting Cougars stretched their winning streak to four games, as Piper Bedell had 17 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals, while Kayla Caudle added 14 points, 20 rebounds and 3 steals.

Daniella Jarrell contributed 10 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals for Vernon Hills (7-3).

"Coach (Babbi) Barreiro's teams always play hard and physical," Cougars coach Paul Brettner said. "It was good to see us match their physicality and play some very good defense."
