St. Viator drops conference opener
St. Viator's seven-game winning streak was snapped on Wednesday night in Lyons when the Lions opened their East Suburban Catholic Conference girls basketball schedule against Nazareth Academy.
St. Viator (7-3, 0-1), which has played its first 10 games of the season on the road, fell 52-37 to the Roadrunners (9-0, 1-0).
The Lions trailed 33-14 at half and rallied to within 43-37 with 4:11 left in the game. But the hosts finished the game on a 9-0 run.
Top scorers for St. Viator (7-3, 0-1) were Natalie Krause (11 points, 4 rebounds), Myia Clark (10 points, 6 rebounds) and Maddie Fitzpatrick (5 points, 2 assists).
Wheaton St. Francis 52, Schaumburg 48: Host Schaumburg (0-8) trailed 9-4 after one quarter but rallied to take a 27-24 lead at intermission.
The Saxons led 40-35 after three quarters but were outscored 17-8 in the final period.
Junior center Vicky Aguirre led Schaumburg (0-9) with 14 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists while senior teammates Kayla Patterson (13 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists) and Kendall Fedrickson (10 points, 8 rebounds) also reached double figures.
Saxons sophomore Talia Torosian chipped in 7 points with 4 rebounds and 2 assists while senior teammate Emma Aguilar had 3 assists and 2 rebounds.
