MSL victories for Buffalo Grove, Fremd and Prospect
Jack Vaselaney scored 17 points and Tom Trieb had a season-best 16 to help Buffalo Grove's boys basketball team get off to a winning start in Mid-Suburban East play.
The Bison, who also got 14 points from Mac Camardo, improved to 4-1 overall with a 66-46 victory over Rolling Meadows on Friday.
Included in Vaselaney's performance were a pair of 3s, along with 11-for-11 at the foul line. As a team, BG was 26-for-31 at the line.
Rolling Meadows led after the first quarter and kept it close for the first half, trailing 30-25 at the break.
Freshman Max Christie paced the Mustangs (1-4) with 13 points, and Gio Carrillo and Ryan Carney had 8 apiece. Javonte Warrener had 2 of Rolling Meadows' 7 threes.
Fremd 56, Hoffman Estates 45: The visiting Vikings came through with a victory in their MSL West opener to improve to 5-1 overall.
Ryan Martin (16 points), Isaiah Turner (14) and Bryce Hopkins (12 points, 10 rebounds) led the way for Fremd.
Hoffman Estates slipped to 3-3 overall and 0-1 in the West.
Prospect 65, Elk Grove 41: The visiting Knights got off to a winning start in the MSL East thanks in part to terrific shooting from 2-point range (22-for-34).
Tim Lussenhop (13 points), Johnny Czeslawski (11) and David Swedura (10) led the scoring effort for Prospect (3-2, 1-0).
Lussenhop had a team-best 5 assists, and Czeslawski, T.J. Johannsen and Patrick McPartlin each had 4 rebounds for Prospect.
Dylan Ingebrigtsen scored a game-best 15 points and Tyler Selvig had 11 to lead the way for Elk Grove (0-5, 0-1).
Highland Park 72, Maine West 59: The visiting Warriors came up short in their Central Suburban North opener on the road.
