Prospect finishes with victory over Highland Park at St. Viator

Prospect's boys basketball team used superb defensive results in the second quarter to wrap up tournament play at St. Viator with a victory on Saturday.

The Knights held Highland Park scoreless in that second period on the way to a 46-35 victory in the Joe Majkowski Thanksgiving Classic.

Prospect (2-2) held a 15-8 lead at the half, played basically even through the third quarter and then pulled away with a 16-point effort in the fourth quarter.

David Swedura led all scores with 16 points, including a pair of 3s for Prospect. Jalen McLachlan, Sam Murray, T.J. Johannesen and Jon Kreidler finished with 6 points apiece for the Knights.

Barrington 56, Prairie Ridge 41: Jack Reinhard (15 points), Anthony Spann (14) and Jake Parsons (12) led the scoring effort as the Broncos completed Crystal Lake Central tournament play with a 3-1 record.

Barrington held Prairie Ridge to 2 points in the first quarter and had a terrific performance at the foul line, finishing 19-for-22. Reinhard, Spann and Parsons were a combined 12-for-12 on free throws.

Warren 67, Elk Grove 50: The Blue Devils won against the Grens to finish 3-2 and in fourth place at Mundelein, while Elk Grove finished 0-5 in the six-team round robing format.

Addison Trail 56, Wheeling 29: Phil Bucko made a pair of 3s and finished with 8 points as the Wildcats dropped their finale in the Battle for the Ridge tournament.

Waubonsie Valley 62, Maine West 55: Maine West slipped to 1-3 after a setback in the matchup of third-place pool finishers in tournament play at Palatine.

Plainfield East 64, Schaumburg 54: The Saxons came up short in the last of their four games in the Ron Johnson tournament hosted by St. Charles East.

Leyden 74, CICS Northtown 54: Leyden wrapped up tournament play in the Battle for the Ridge with a decisive victory.
