Stevenson drops defensive struggle at Schaumburg

At Schaumburg, Stevenson's girls basketball team dropped a 23-18 decision to Wheaton Warrenville South on Tuesday to fall to 2-2 overall and 2-2 in the tournament.

Kiana Cencula (two 3-pointers) and Avery King each had 6 points for Stevenson. Klaire Steffens was held scoreless until the fourth quarter, when she sank a pair of shots from the fllor to finish with 4 points.

The Patriots play St. Charles Eat at 11:30 a.m. Friday to finish up the tourney.

Maine South 61, Libertyville 40: At Libertyville, as part of the Buffalo Grove tournament, the Wildcats trailed only 29-25 at halftime, before being outscored 18-5 in the third quarter en route to their first loss.

Margaret Buchert led Libertyville (2-1, 2-1 tourney) with 12 points. The Wildcats will next play Mother McAuley at 1 p.m. Friday at Buffalo Grove. On Saturday, Libertyville will tip against Grayslake Central at 1 p.m.

Barrington 34, Grayslake Central 29: At Libertyville, Tori Meyer scored 10 of her 12 points, including 8 free throws in as many attempts, in the fourth quarter, as the Fillies pulled out the win.

Kate Bullman had 10 points for Grayslake Central (2-2, 1-2 tourney), which will play Maine South at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Buffalo Grove. The Rams will wrap up the tourney Saturday with a 1 p.m. start against Libertyville.

Wauconda 45, Richmond-Burton 40: On Monday night at Wauconda, junior Allie Tylka had 21 points, 7 rebounds and 4 steals, and the Bulldogs rallied to win their final game of their own Thanksgiving tournament.

Freshman Ella Karg added 11 points, 3 rebounds and 3 steals for Wauconda (2-1, 2-1), which trailed 21-18 at halftime. Freshman Kiley Szmajda had 6 points, 6 rebounds, 6 blocked shots and 2 assists.

"Our young team continues to struggle with consistency," said coach Jaime Dennis, who has five freshmen on her roster. "We did not do a very good job of taking care of the ball in the first half. Lots of turnovers limited our opportunities. As we settled down a bit, we were able to get some stops and make some shots.

"Allie Tylka continues to be our leader both offensively and defensively. Ella Karg also provided a spark on offense. (Sophomore) Morgan Lung came in off the bench and played some solid defense down the stretch and grab some very opportunistic rebounds (6, in total)."
