Qualley, Stevenson prevail at Palatine

Jackson Qualley scored a game-high 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting and grabbed 7 rebounds, as Stevenson's boys basketball defeated Waubonsie Valley 47-37 in the Palatine Thanksgiving tournament Wednesday night.

Luke Chieng added 9 points for the Patriots (2-0). Matt Ambrose had 6 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists.

Lake Forest Academy 67, Mundelein 57: At Mundelein, the Caxys jumped out to a 17-10 lead after one quarter and were up 35-18 at halftime.

Freshman Brandon Weston led LFA (2-1) with 19 points, including a pair of 3-pointers. Matey Juric (14 points) and Andrew Crawford (10, two 3s) also scored in double figures.

Jeff Bikus had 17 points (9 of 13 from the foul line) for Mundelein (2-1). By winning their first two games, the Mustangs enjoyed their best start since started the 2011-12 season, when they began 7-0 en route to a 26-8 season.

"We didn't have any legs," Mundelein first-year coach Matt Badgley said. "It took a lot of energy to win (Tuesday) night (18-point win over Warren), and it was a lot to be excited about."

The tournament resumes Friday with Lake Forest Academy playing Elk Grove (0-3) at 4:30 p.m., followed by Deerfield (1-2) against Mundelein at 6 p.m. and Fremd (2-1) vs. Warren (2-1) at 7:30 p.m.

Grayslake North 77, Rich Central 69: On Tuesday night at Johnsburg, James Connolly recorded his first career triple-double - 23 points, 15 rebounds, 10 assists - joining Aidan Einloth (twice) and Jamal Thomas (four times) as the only players in team history to record the feat.

Ryan Connolly added 20 points for Grayslake North, which jumped out to a 30-15 lead after one quarter and held on for their second win in as many nights. Jon Smithson and Jason Donohue had 13 and 10 points, respectively.

Grayslake North (2-0) will play host Johnsburg at 12:30 p.m. Friday.

Lakes 46, Johnsburg 45: On Tuesday night at Johnsburg, the Eagles overcame a six-point deficit with less than two left in the fourth quarter for their first win of the season.

Michael Behrendt led Lakes with 15 points (three 3-pointers). Bradley Cherry (11 points) and Logan McCann (10, two 3-pointers) also scored in double figures.

Lakes (1-1) will take on Rich Central at 11 a.m. Friday at Johnsburg.
