Dickson, Hughes pace Warren past Fenwick

Kaylen Dickson scored a game-high 24 points, and Warren's girls basketball team beat Fenwick 54-43 at Niles North on Saturday night.

Jordyn Hughes added 19 points for the Blue Devils, who improved to 1-1 on the season and 1-1 in the Niles North tournament.

Libertyville 56, Harlem 42: At Buffalo Grove, Lydia Crow had 21 points and 10 rebounds, as the Wildcats improved to 2-0 in the Bison Classic.

Freshman Lauren Huber grabbed 15 rebounds for Libertyville, and sophomore Margaret Buchert dished out 5 assists.

"We were able to get great minutes from many players off the bench, and we finished the game strong," Wildcats coach Greg Pedersen said. "We like how we have progressed so far this season."

Evanston 45, Stevenson 34: At Schaumburg, the Patriots suffered their first loss of the season.

Klaire Steffens scored a game-high 15 points for Stevenson (2-1, 2-1 tournament), which resumes the tournament Tuesday with a 5 p.m. tipoff against Wheaton Warrenville South.

Grayslake North 49, Highland Park 39: At Mundelein, the Knights picked up their first win of the season in their tournament finale.

Junior guard Savannah Guenther represented Grayslake North (1-4, 1-4) on the all-tournament team.

Highland Park (2-3, 2-3) placed sophomore Addie Budnik and junior Sydney Ignoffo on the all-tourney team.

Grant 56, Carmel 42: At Mundelein, the Bulldogs won the tournament finale to finish 3-2 after going winless in the tourney last year.

Grant (3-2 overall) placed senior Mallory Harrity and junior Ally Mahinay on the all-tournament team.

Carmel was represented by sophomore Ranya Jamison and junior Shai Horton on the all-tourney team.

Glenbrook South 56, Mundelein 39: At Mundelein, the Titans wrapped up the championship, going 5-0.

The Titans placed junior Makayla Stadler, junior Libbie Vanderveen, senior Lizzy Shaw and senior Liz LaPierre on the all-tournament team.

Sophomore Morgan Frank and senior Hannah Buscher made the all-tourney team for Mundelein.

Mother McAuley 64, Grayslake Central 29: At Buffalo Grove, the Rams suffered their first loss of the season, falling to 1-1 in the Bison Classic.

Payton Gosell led Grayslake (2-1) with 8 points.

Rock Island 62, Lakes 20: The Eagles lost the Turkey Thriller tournament game to fall to 0-3 on the season.

"All in all, we just played a really good basketball team tonight," Lakes coach Brian Phelan said. "(Breanna) Beal and (Chrislyn) Carr are really tough cover. They are a state-champion caliber team."

Sycamore 51, Vernon Hills 45: At Vernon Hills, Daniella Jarrell had 16 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists in a losing effort for the host Cougars.

Kylie Bunning added 13 points and 4 rebounds for Vernon Hills (1-2), and Mackenzie Mahler had 6 points and 7 rebounds. Starting guard Piper Bedell left the game after getting hit in the mouth in the first quarter and never returned. That left the Cougars with only 6 dressed players. They were within two with under a minute to play, but missed a shot and Sycamore finished the game off from the free-throw line.

"They mounted a great comeback," Vernon Hills coach Paul Brettner said of his players.

Lake Forest 61, Antioch 20: At Vernon Hills, the Scouts improved to 2-1 in the tournament, while dropping the Sequoits to 0-3.
