Aurora Central Catholic takes third at Somonauk tournament

Aurora Central Catholic defeated conference rival Wheaton Academy 46-41 in the third place game at the Somonauk tournament Friday night.

The Warriors led 15-5 early before the Chargers went on an 18-1 run to take a 28-16 halftime lead. Wheaton Academy pulled within a point in the fourth quarter. Jess Kling hit a key 3-pointer with 2:45 left in the game for Aurora Central.

Delani Kosner led the Chargers (3-1) with 15 points and Tatyana Smith scored 9. Kosner averaged 13 points for the tournament.

Bartlett 64, Plainfield North 55: The Hawks won their season opener at the Naperville Central tournament behind 23 points from Kayla Hare. She also set the school record with her 135th career 3-pointer. Freshman Lexie Sinclair led Bartlett with 24 points.

Kaneland 74, Wauconda, 43: The Knights (2-0) won at the Wauconda tournament, putting the game away with a 28-3 advantage in the third quarter.

Jenni Weber scored 21 points, making 6 of her 7 shots from 2-point range. Jamie Martens had 12 points, 5 assists and 2 steals. Chloe Conley added 8 points. Alden-Hebron 56, Westminster Christian 42: At the Elgin Academy tournament, the Warriors (2-1) came up short despite 16 points and 6 rebounds from Elise VanNoord. Kristen Mason added 8 points and Grace Schmitt grabbed 6 rebounds.

Rockford Boylan 62, Jacobs 27: Elizabeth Schwartz led Jacobs with 15 points.

Rockton Hononegah 64, Huntley 29: The Red Raiders (0-2) lost on their home court, falling behind 23-9 after one quarter, then scoring 9 points in the second half. Freshmen Kamsi Nwogu and Raquel Radermacher led Huntley with 10 and 9 points, respectively.

Rosary 56, Indian Creek 23: The Royals advanced to the championship game of the IMSA tournament. Anna Glasgow made three 3-pointers and scored 13 points, and Jenna Hernandez added 10 points. Rosary will play Ottawa for the title at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

Ottawa 45, Aurora Christian 32: The Eagles (2-1) lost their first game of the season at the IMSA tournament. They led 19-13 at halftime but were outscored by 19 points in the second half. Megan Hart scored 9 points for Aurora Christian, who will play IMSA for third place at noon Saturday.
