Elk Grove evened its record to 1-1 in the Vernon Hills tournament on Thursday night with a 48-44 victory over Sycamore.

Zoe Blomquist (11 points, 6 rebounds), Megan Murray (10 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals) and Rachel Kandefer (9 points, 15 rebounds) helped lead coach Jen Guth's Grenadiers.

Maine West 73, St. Charles North 23: Maine West (26 steals) rolled to its second straight win at the Hoffman Estates tournament as sophomore Angela Dugalic collected 14 points and 10 rebounds. Alisa Fallon added 10 points with 5 rebounds and 5 assists while Jocelyn Jacob came off the bench and tossed home 12 points.

Hoffman Estates 46, Proviso West 34: Berry Chukwuyem (11 points), Raven Wilson (10), Alysa Dupart (9) and Tayler Williams (9) led Hoffman (1-1) to victory in the second round of its own tournament. Williams and Dupart each had three 3-pointers.

Grayslake Central 46, Hersey 37: Hersey senior Claire Rogowski scored 13 points (three 3-pointers) while Maesyn Benjamin and Katie McGrath each chipped 6 in the first-round game of the Bison Classic hosted by Huskies, Buffalo Grove and Libertyville.

Mother McAuley 71, Barrington 42: Sophomore Taylor Thompson (22 points, 11 rebounds) led the Fillies in their season opener at the Bison Classic hosted by Hersey.

"We turned the ball over nine times in our first 14 possessions," said Fillies coach Babbi Barreiro. "We just had some opening-game jitters. It was hard to climb back out of the hole but we battled in the second half."

Barreiro said Tori Meyer (16 points) had a steady offensive game.

"And I thought Taylor (Thompson) had a real nice second half," the coach added. "In the first half we gave up too many open 3-pointers. In the second half, we gave them fewer open looks. I like this group. They'll juts keep getting better."

Wheeling 52, Chicago Ellison 9: Wheeling improved to 2-0 in the Maine East Thanksgiving tournament as Nansy Velev (12 points), Morgan Collar 10) and Nosa Igiehon (10) all reached doubled figures for the Wildcats. Teammates Sophia Stanke and Christina Pierini each hit a 3-pointer.

Wheaton Warrenville South 50, St. Viator 31: Myia Clark (16 points), and Olivia Solimene (7) led the Lions (0-2) in the Schaumburg tournament. Clark had a pair of 3-pointers and Solimene had one.

Stevenson 48, Schaumburg 42 (OT): Ariana Doroskin (11 points, 8-of-8 free throws), Vicky Aguirre (10 points) and Kayla Patterson (8 points) led the Saxons (0-2) in their own tourney against Stevenson (2-0).
