Barr, Carmel stop Grayslake North
Brigit Barr scored 10 points, and Carmel Catholic's girls basketball team beat Grayslake North 40-29 for its second straight win in the Mundelein Thanksgiving tournament Wednesday night.
Carmel (2-1, 2-1 tourney) received 6 points apiece from Katie Lach, Shai Horton and Ranya Jamison. The Corsairs trailed 11-8 after one quarter but outscored the Knights 19-3 in the second to lead 27-14 at halftime.
Grayslake North (0-3, 0-3 tourney) got a game-high 17 points from Savannah Guenther.
The tournament resumes Friday with Carmel playing Highland Park at 6 p.m., followed by Mundelein against Grayslake North at 7:30 p.m. Grant faces Glenbrook South in the first game at 4:30 p.m.
Glenbrook South 66, Highland Park 38: At Mundelein, the Titans won the final game of the night to improve to 3-0 in the tournament.
Highland Park fell to 2-1 in the tourney.
Johnsburg 43, Lakes 32: At Lakes, the host Eagles fell to 0-2 in the Turkey Thriller tournament.
Paule Ceneac had 9 points, 7 rebounds and 5 blocked shots for Lakes (0-2), while Mia Edward scored 10 points and grabbed 8 rebounds.
"We saw our battling during the game improve from our season opener," Lakes coach Brian Phelan said. "We are moving in the right direction. We battled a quality Johnsburg team tonight. The season is young, and we are looking forward to improving over the next couple of weeks."
Highland Park 62, Grant 57 (OT): On Tuesday night, at Mundelein, Grant junior Ally Mahinay (team-high 21 points) hit a 3-pointer at the final buzzer to send the game to overtime tied at 49-49.
But behind Sydney Ignoffo's game-high 33 points, Highland Park won in OT to improve to 2-0 in the tournament.
Mallory Harrity also had a good offensive night with 17 points for Grant (1-1).
