St. Viator finishes with an ESCC win

St. Viator's boys basketball team wrapped up its East Suburban Catholic season with another victory.

The Lions topped host Nazareth Academy 72-59 as they improved to 10-15 overall and finished 6-3 in the league. The win snapped a three-game skid for the Lions.

Coach Quin Hayes' team had balanced scoring, with Jeremiah Hernandez leading the way with 15 points.

Pete Lambesis, Daniel Morton and Addison Lubert each finished with 10 points and J.R. Cison had 9 as a total of nine St. Viator players scored.

The key quarters were the middle two, when the Lions scored 24 and 23 points to take command.

St. Viator's postseason begins Tuesday, with a 6 p.m. Tuesday matchup at Chicago Payton against the winner of Monday's Vernon Hills-Kelvyn Park play-in game.

The Lions are seeded No. 3 in the Class 3A Antioch sectional and are the highest-seeded team in the Payton regional.

Class 1A

Both Christian Liberty and Schaumburg Christian saw their seasons end in regional semifinal play Wednesday.

Sixth-seeded Christian Liberty fell short against third-seeded Chicago Douglass 71-59 in the Walther Christian regional, part of the Hope Academy sectional.

Douglass will face Skokie Yeshiva, a 55-45 winner against Deerfield Rochelle Zell, in Friday's regional championship game.

At Lena-Winslow, 14th-seeded Schaumburg Christian was ousted 68-44 by sixth-seeded Lena-Winslow. The regional championship matchup, part of the Pecatonica sectional, will feature Harvest Christian against Lena-Winslow on Friday.
