Harvest Christian heads to state basketball finals

The Harvest Christian Academy girls basketball team received a nice send-off from classmates, parents and fans at its Elgin campus Wednesday as it prepared to travel to Redbird Arena in Normal for the Illinois High School Association Class 1A Final Four state tournament.

The Lions qualified by beating Heyworth 54-39 Monday night at the Pontiac supersectional. This is Harvest Christian's first trip to a state final tournament in any girls sport. The boys cross country team won the Class 1A state championship last fall.

The Lions take on Annawan in the 11 a.m. semifinal Friday. The game can be seen live on Comcast SportsNet.
