Week 11: Stevenson's Herenton garners MVP distinction

Stevenson senior guard Willie Herenton has earned Daily Herald MVP acclaim for his recent high school boys basketball performances.

Willie Herenton, Stevenson: The former Whitney Young guard has looked more than comfortable in his second season with the Patriots. He poured in a career-high 34 points on 10-of-13 shooting from the floor (12 of 15 from the foul line) in an 85-74 win at Zion-Benton. The senior then continued his hot shooting at Libertyville, making 11 of 15 shots and scoring 23 points, as the Patriots won 58-47.

Joey Ratzek, Burlington Central: The Rockets remain tied for first place in the Kishwaukee River Conference, thanks in part to this 6-foot-2 senior. Ratzek scored a career-best 33 points in an 83-73 victory over Woodstock to help Central bounce back from its seond conference loss. The next day he contributed 12 points in an 82-56 nonconference victory over Ashton Franklin Center.

Michael Ritchie, Prospect: The 6-foot-5 senior forward has been a difference-maker of late for a team that has yet to lose in the new year. Ritchie led the Knights in scoring in three wins on the road last week, at Lyons, Elk Grove and Niles North. He averaged 18 points on torrid shooting: 7-for-11 from 2-point range and an astounding 12-for-16 from 3.

Michael Williams, Addison Trail: Williams led the way in a pair WSC Gold victories. The 6-foot-5 senior scored 20 points in a 57-53 win over Proviso East - the program's first home win over the Pirates in 20 years. Williams tallied 16 points in a 51-35 win over Leyden and made all 11 of his free throw attempts in the two games.
