Wheeling gets defensive at Maine East

Wheeling 47, Maine East 15: Wheeling's boys basketball team came up with a stifling defensive effort in a 47-15 victory over Maine East in nonconference play Tuesday.

Wheeling (10-12) held host Maine East to 2 points in both the second and fourth quarters.

Johny Kappel scored a game-high 13 points, while Deshon Jacobs had 11.

Virtually everyone on the Wildcats' roster got playing time, and a total of nine players scored.

Wheeling returns to Mid-Suburban East play with a 6 p.m. Friday tip at Hersey. The Wildcats are 4-4 in divisional play, while Hersey is 6-2.

Hersey 65, Glenbrook South 62: Joe Coffaro scored a game-high 20 points with three 3s as the Huskies picked up a nonconference victory.

Ken Hasley contributed 11 points and Grant Wagner had 9 as Hersey (13-9) won for the seventh time in eight games.

Jimmy McMahon led Glenbrook South with 16 points, which included four 3s.

Conant 75, Larkin 59: Senior guard Jimmy Sotos came up with 25 points on 13-for-15 free throw shooting to pace the Cougars to victory No. 20 in nonconference action.

Ryan Davis came up with 16 points and Michael Downing and Ben Schols had 12 apiece as Conant (20-4) won its fifth straight.

Hoffman Estates 48, Streamwood 43: Sophomore guard Rudra Patel came up with a pair of 3s and finished with a game-high 17 points as the Hawks picked up a nonconference win over the Sabres to snap a five-game skid.
