Haflinger paces Lakes' victory

Lakes 50, Vernon Hills 45: Ian Haflinger scored 10 of his game-high 18 points in the fourth quarter, as Lakes' boys basketball team earned a 50-45 nonconference win over host Vernon Hills on Saturday.

Lakes improved to 10-13.

Vernon Hills (4-22) was led by Jack O'Connell's 13 points and Chris Mariella's 9.

Deerfield 72, Wauconda 58: The host Bulldogs dropped the nonconference game, despite Kyle Drobnik's season-high 24 points and 8 rebounds.

Jarod Stonis added 19 points, including two 3-pointers, and 8 boards for Wauconda (8-15). The Warriors led 13-12 after one quarter and then outscored the Bulldogs 25-10 in the second to go into halftime up 38-22.

Marian Catholic 84, Carmel 59: On Friday in Chicago Heights, the visiting Corsairs fell behind 22-15 after one quarter and trailed 46-34 at halftime of the East Suburban Catholic Conference game.

Marian Catholic then outscored Carmel 22-10 in the third.

Evan Myers led the Corsairs with 18 points, including four 3-pointers. Johnny Roeser added 15 for Carmel (10-15, 1-5), which lost its third in a row.

Sean Taylor had 19 points for Marian Catholic (13-8, 4-2), which won its fourth straight in ESCC play.
