Seniors step up for Vernon Hills

Katie Burrows scored 13 points, Kayla Caudle had 13 points and 7 rebounds, and Vernon Hills' girls basketball team celebrated senior night by beating visiting Maine East 47-34 in Central Suburban League North Division action Friday night.

The Cougars (12-13, 7-2) beat Maine East for the second time this season in snapping a three-game losing streak. Vernon Hills honored seniors Burrows, Becky Bahlmann, Sammie Biede, Sarah Demas, Sophia Lehocky and Emma Pappano.

"It is fitting to have a good team win on the night that we honored our seniors," Cougars coach Paul Brettner said. "They are a wonderful group of kids to coach."

Lake Forest 42, Lake Zurich 38: The host Scouts hit the 20-win mark with the North Suburban Conference win.

Delaney Williams and Maeve Summerville scored 12 and 11 points, respectively, for Lake Forest (20-9, 9-4).

Lake Zurich fell to 11-14 and 7-6.

Warren 42, Mundelein 31: The visiting Blue Devils spoiled the Mustangs' senior night.

Warren improved to 22-4 and 10-3 in the North Suburban Conference.

Mundelein dropped to 12-16 and 4-9.
