New Trier's second half tops Conant

Conant girls basketball coach Deirdre Naughton went back to home the gymnasium in Winnetka where she starred as a New Trier Trevian before going on to play at DePaul.

Going up her former coach, Teri Rodgers, Naughton watched her Cougars play a solid first half before falling 54-34 in the nonconference matinee game.

"It was fun to be back there," Naughton said. "I hadn't been back in four years. It was nice to see all the people I grew up with and hear them say how hard our girls played."

Leading the Cougars (8-15) were senior Jorie Wachal (game-high 18 points), junior Cate Fitzgerald (6) and junior Taylor Cyr (5).

"It was a fun game to play," Naughton added. "The girls came out and competed so hard. They played a great first half. We were right there. Their 3-pointers hurt us."

Kristie Kalis (11 points) and Maggie Murdock (9 points) each had three 3-pointers for the Trevians. Cate Murock led the home team with 16 points.
