St. Edward wins 20th, closes in on MSC Blue title

Maddie Spagnola scored 19 points and Yssa Sto. Domingo added 15 as the St. Edward girls basketball team notched its 20th win of the season Friday night, an 85-34 Metro Suburban Blue win at Elmwood Park.

Madison Knott added 9 points for the Green Wave (20-5, 10-0), who recorded their first 20-win season since 2011-12.

St. Edward can wrap up the MSC Blue championship next Thursday night at home against Walther Christian.

East Aurora 52, West Aurora 51: Essence Rayford had 12 points and Skylar Doby added 10 for West Aurora (10-10, 5-2), which fell out of a tie for first place in the Upstate Eight Valley with this loss. The Tomcats ended the game on a 35-11 run to erase a 40-23 third-quarter deficit. Jeanette Villezcas' free throw with 14.9 seconds remaining was the difference in the end. Dearra Brown had a game-high 18 points for East Aurora (8-9, 3-3).
