Dones (30 points) paces Maine West's win

Maine West's boys basketball team got a huge effort from point guard Julian Dones in earning a 62-55 victory over host Vernon Hills in Central Suburban North play.

Dones, a junior, finished with a game-high 30 points. He canned five 3s and finished 9-for-12 from the foul line.

Jack Framke contributed 12 points, and Matt Kentgen and Jon Beaver had 6 apiece.

Maine West (11-7) made 7 of 15 shots from long range, and managed to out-rebound the Cougars 30-20.

Conant 62, Barrington 30: Senior guard Jimmy Sotos had 16 points and junior forward Ryan Davis had 15 in helping the visiting Cougars improve to 17-4 overall and 5-2 in the MSL West.

Wheeling 49, Elk Grove 35: The visiting Wildcats got 12 points from Deshon Jacobs and 11 from T.J. Best in improving to 8-10 overall and 4-3 in the MSL East.

Downers Grove South 50, Leyden 42: The visiting Mustangs (13-9, 5-2) managed to keep the Eagles winless in West Suburban Gold games as Leyden slipped to 4-14 overall.
