Week 7: Larson nets Daily Herald MVP distinction

Grayslake Central senior guard/forward Amanda Larson has earned Daily Herald MVP honors after her recent high school girls basketball performance.

Amanda Larson, Grayslake Central: The senior guard/forward has been scoring consistently since the start of last season, but she was never better than she was in a 65-39 win over Grayslake North. She poured in a career-high 35 points, which included five 3-pointers. She had 16 points in the third quarter, helping the Rams remain undefeated in the Northern Lake County Conference.

Rachel Dumoulin, Hampshire: This 5-foot-9 senior tallied a career-high 25 points in the Whip-Purs' 53-38 victory over Dundee-Crown. She scored 17 points in the first half and hit all 12 of her free throws. Dumoulin added 6 rebounds. She followed that gem with another great night at the free-throw line, sinking 9 of 11 and scoring 23 points with 9 rebounds and 4 assists in a 44-36 win over Prairie Ridge.

Georgette Topalis, Buffalo Grove: The senior guard, who will play soccer at Winona State, netted a career-high 27 points with five 3-pointers, 7 rebounds and 6 steals in a 56-33 win over Lakes. Topalis then came back a few hours later with 15 points, 7 rebounds and 5 steals in a 54-22 triumph over Deerfield at the Lake Forest MLK Tournament.

Carson Vance, Lake Park: The junior guard totaled 57 points over three games by making 10 of 30 shots from behind the 3-point arc and 11 of 14 free throws. She also had 10 assists and 9 steals as the Lancers had their best week of the season, winning twice.
