North Chicago edges Antioch despite Filippone's 30 points

Dan Filippone scored a career-high 30 points, but Antioch's comeback bid fell just short, as host North Chicago pulled out a 76-72 decision in Northern Lake County Conference boys basketball action Tuesday night.

Ben Gutke (12 points), Reece Eldridge (11) and Andrew Hare (10) also scored in double figures for Antioch (6-9, 2-4), which trailed 18-7 after one quarter. Down 37-29 at halftime, the Sequoits outscored North Chicago (5-0 NLCC) 28-16 in the third quarter to take a 57-53 lead into the fourth. But the Warhawks outscored the Sequoits 23-15 in the fourth.

Filippone, a sophomore guard, sank four 3-pointers and went 8 of 10 from the foul line.

Lakes 53, Round Lake 51: The host Eagles recorded an exciting comeback win over a hot-shooting Round Lake team in Northern Lake County play.

Down by 7 points with 2:30 left, Lakes (7-9, 3-3) came back behind some key shots and tough defensive plays.

Michael Behrendt, who led Lakes with 17 points behind five 3-pointers, hit the go-ahead 3 to put the Eagles ahead 52-51. Lakes held on behind strong defensive play down the stretch to capture its fourth win in a row.

Round Lake (2-14, 0-6) was led by Zach Kuligoski with 20 points.
