Week 6: Hinsdale Central's Bareck earns MVP acclaim
Hinsdale Central senior guard Paige Bareck has earned Daily Herald MVP honors for her recent high school girls basketball performances.
Paige Bareck, Hinsdale Central: The senior guard reached the 1,000-point mark in a win vs. West Suburban Silver rival Glenbard West. Bareck finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds. The next day the four-year varsity player had 12 points, 5 rebounds and 5 steals in a Silver win against Proviso West, giving her 1,019 points.
Maesyn Benjamin, Hersey: In the battle for first place in the Mid-Suburban East, Benjamin came to the rescue for Hersey with a game-high 16 points, converting 4-of-5 three-point attempts in a 56-44 win over Rolling Meadows. The 5-foot-7 junior guard was 6-of-9 overall from the field and also grabbed 8 rebounds.
Claire Keefe, Libertyville: In her first game since missing Libertyville's entire winter-break tournament with a peritonsillar abscess, the 6-foot senior forward showed no ill effects. A four-year varsity starter, she produced game highs of 17 points and 12 rebounds, leading the Wildcats to a 42-30 victory over Mundelein.
Jenni Weber, Kaneland: Kaneland went 3-0 last week to improve to 15-2, and this sharp-shooting junior guard was at the forefront of all three wins. Weber started with 17 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals against Rochelle. She lit Sterling up for 25 points with 2 steals, and scored 18 points with 5 rebounds in a win over Fenton.
