Round Lake succeeds with group effort

Balanced scoring helped Round Lake's girls basketball team beat Highland Park 54-45 Saturday in a nonconference matinee.

Sophomore Samantha Nicoline led the Panthers (3-12) with 12 points. Emily Etherington scored 10, while Emely Martinez and Diane Flade each contributed 8.

Stevenson 30, Lake Zurich 23: Down 2-0 after one quarter, the host Patriots outlasted the Bears to remain undefeated in the North Suburban Conference.

Kiana Cencula scored a season-high 14 points, sinking four 3-pointers, for Stevenson (14-3, 7-0), which was up 7-6 at halftime. Ashley Richardson and Madison Wicklund added 8 and 7 points, respectively.

Lake Zurich (8-10, 4-2) got 8 points from Ella Gilbertson and 7 from McKenna Zobel.

Warren 73, Waukegan 28: Jordyn Hughes scored 24 points, Kaylen Dickson added 22, and the visiting Blue Devils cruised in North Suburban action.

No starters played in the fourth quarter for Warren (15-3, 4-2), which ran its winning streak to eight games. Up 44-17 at halftime, the Blue Devils outscored the Bulldogs 20-1 in the third quarter.

Ja'Da White had 13 points for Waukegan.

Libertyville 42, Mundelein 30: In her first game after missing all four in Libertyville's winter tournament due to illness, Claire Keefe had 17 points and 12 rebounds for the visiting Wildcats in North Suburban action.

Maddie Spaulding scored 5 of her 9 points in the fourth quarter for Libertyville (9-8, 3-4) and also grabbed 10 rebounds. The Wildcats led only 29-25 after three.

Sarah Ouimet had 12 points for Mundelein (5-12, 2-5).

Lake Forest 39, Zion-Benton 34: Halle Douglass had 12 points and 8 rebounds, and Maeve Summerville added 9 points and 13 boards for the Scouts in the North Suburban game.

Lake Forest improved to 14-5 and 5-2 in the NSC.
