Dundee-Crown comes from behind to beat Jacobs

There wasn't the least bit of panic.

Down 15-0 to start the game, Dundee-Crown rallied from the early deficit to post an exhilarating 41-37 win over District 300 rival Jacobs in Fox Valley Conference girls basketball action in Carpentersville Friday night.

"We were down early in the game but not out," said D-C coach Sarah Miller. "We stayed calm, wanted to win every possession and really executed well in the last three quarters. This was a total team win and a great win for our confidence."

Allison Michalski, playing the game with back problems, produced a 13-point, 12-rebound effort for the Chargers (9-10, 3-4).

"We knew after the slow start we had plenty of time to get back in the game," said Michalski. "I was hurting but I knew I had to gut it out. We have had an up and down, roller coaster season so far. We had a great practice yesterday and came into this game with a lot of focus. It was a great win for the team."

Jacobs (6-9, 4-3) connected on 6 of its first 9 shots in scoring the first 15 points. Freshman guard Kyra Cabusao scored 7 points including a 3-pointer and Carly Sidor canned a 3-pointer, was fouled on the play and made a free throw to complete a 4-point play.

The Chargers finally got on the scoreboard when freshman guard Cassidy Randl drilled a 12-footer to make the score 15-2 with 2:53 left in the first quarter.

D-C, which trailed Jacobs 19-6 after 1 quarter, scored the first 10 points of the second 8 minutes. A 3-pointer from Paige Gieseke sliced the Golden Eagles' lead to 19-16 with 3:46 remaining in the first half.

A 3-pointer at the buzzer by Anna Kieltyka gave the Chargers their first lead of the game, 25-23 at intermission.

D-C's biggest lead of the game was 37-29 after a conventional 3-point play from Michalski with 2:53 left in the contest.

Randl backed Michalski with 9 points, 7 in the first half. Cabusao paced Jacobs with 12 points, while Sidor scored 11.

"When you have a rivalry game like this you are going to have a game of runs," said Jacobs coach Joe Benoit. "We had the run to start the game and we knew D-C would come back with a run. We had plenty of chances at the end of the game to win. We played with a lot of heart and desire. ''

D-C junior guard Kennedy White is out 3 to 4 weeks with a fractured hand.
