Lovitsch gives Grayslake North a last-minute lift

Sidney Lovitsch hit a bank shot off a scramble for an offensive rebound with 8 seconds left in overtime to give Grayslake North's girls basketball team a one-point lead, as the Knights edged host Grant 47-45 Friday night in a Northern Lake County Conference thriller.

Lovitsch (game-high 14 points) added a free throw with 0.5 seconds left for the final margin. Sydney Paez added 9 points for Grayslake North (10-3, 5-0).

Grant (4-10, 2-3) received 13 points from Mallory Harrity and 8 from Ally Mahinay.

Grayslake Central 71, North Chicago 29: The host Rams bolted to a 31-5 lead after one quarter en route to the Northern Lake County win.

Amanda Larson scored 18 points for Grayslake Central (11-6, 5-0), which remained tied for first place in the NLCC with Grayslake North. Lindsay Brust scored all 14 of her points in the first quarter for the Rams, who also got 12 points (two 3-pointers) from Rosie Drevline.

Vernon Hills 40, Deerfield 34: Kayla Caudle had 17 points and 14 rebounds, as the host Cougars won in Central Suburban League North action.

Katie Burrows (9 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists) and Becky Bahlmann (5 points, 10 rebounds) also played well for Vernon Hills (9-8, 4-1).

"We were able to overcome a tough shooting night," Cougars coach Paul Brettner said. "Coach (Mike) Muldrow's team played some fantastic defense, but we managed to score just enough to win."
