Fremd finds its way past Barrington

Fremd, the four-time reigning Mid-Suburban League girls basketball champion, raised its record to 4-0 in the West Division on Friday night as the Vikings survived a defensive battle at Barrington 39-33.

Seniors Grace Tworek and Missy Adrian each scored 12 points to lead coach Dave Yates' Vikings, who will take a 12-4 record into today's 1:15 p.m. match against Morgan Park Academy in the Chicagoland Invitational Showcase hosted by Fremd.

Freshman Emily Klaczek chipped in 7 points for the Vikes.

Senior Claire Collier paced the Fillies (2-13, 1-3) with 16 points, including a career-high four 3-pointers while sophomore Tori Meyer connected for 14 points with a pair of 3-pointers.

"Offensively, Tori and Claire really carried the team," said Barrington coach Babbi Barreiro. "They hit some big 3-pointers when we needed them to."

Barreiro was quite pleased with her team's defense for most of the night.

"I thought we made Fremd work for just about every basket," she said. "(Cecilia) Stack (10 rebounds), in particular, held Grace (Tworek) down offensively and our guards did a nice job on their guards."

Freshman Taylor Thompson had 6 rebounds for the Fillies and Collier 5.

"The kids have been fighting hard all season and of course we never like to lose," Barreiro added. "But I thought to be within two possessions after turning the ball over too many times was a big positive for this group. Fremd is strong and having a nice season and we were right there with them tonight. I believe in my girls and was proud of them tonight."
