Stonis paces Waconda's win over Round Lake

Wauconda 68, Round Lake 44: Jarod Stonis poured in 27 points and added 5 steals, and Wauconda's boys basketball team beat Round Lake 68-44 Tuesday morning in a consolation-bracket game of Marengo's E.C. Nichols Holiday Tournament.

Connor Brannick and Jimmy Ott added 13 and 11 points, respectively, for Wauconda (4-10, 1-2 tourney), which snapped a six-game losing streak. Kyle Drobnik had 4 points, 9 rebounds and 3 steals for the Bulldogs.

Round Lake (0-3 tourney) was led by Zach Kuligoski's 16 points. Lucas Hollingsworth had 9.

The tournament concludes Wednesday. Round Lake plays North Boone at 9 a.m., followed by Wauconda against Woodstock at 10:30 a.m.

Antioch 68, Harvest Christian 51: At Marengo, Dan Filippone scored 22 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, and Reece Eldridge had a double-double of 19 points and 13 rebounds for the Sequoits, who advanced to the fifth-place game.

Logan Weber had 11 points for Antioch (4-6, 2-1), which wraps up the tournament at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday against host Marengo.

Winnebago 79, Mundelein 49: At DeKalb, the Mustangs dropped their tournament opener, despite Tommy Marcotte's 24 points.

James Willman grabbed 13 rebounds for Mundelein (2-8), which trailed 13-10 after one quarter, 38-24 at halftime and 54-35 after three. Winnebago's Ty Waller led all scorers with 27 points.

Mundelein plays Huntley at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Fremd 72, Vernon Hills 40: At Wheeling, the Cougars dropped their opening game in the Hardwood Classic.

Chris Mariella scored 14 points for Vernon Hills (3-9), which trailed 21-12 after one quarter and 40-23 at halftime.

The Cougars play Buffalo Grove at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Lakes 2, Sullivan 0 (fft.): At Jacobs, the Eagles were credited with a win by forfeit after Chicago Sullivan did not show up for the 9 a.m. tournament finale.

Lakes (4-9, 1-4 tourney) had lost its last nine games.
