The state's second-ranked Class 4A girls basketball team finds itself with a hole in its lineup.
Montini sophomore guard Zoe Zacker suffered a torn ACL in Saturday's victory against the third-ranked team in Illinois, according to coach Jason Nichols. Zacker was on defense in the second half and drew a charging foul against Rock Island on the play.
It was the same knee and injury that ended her freshman season early.
Zacker is ranked 70th in the country in her class by recruiting analyst Brett McCormick and is being recruited by several colleges.
Zacker was averaging 9.7 points and 4.6 rebounds a game for the Broncos (11-0). She also was averaging 3.2 assists and 3.3 steals. She was shooting 39 percent from 3-point range, 44 percent overall.
The Broncos have guards Illysse Pitts and Sam Mitchell who will get more playing time in Zacker's absence. Senior guard Nikki Oppenheimer, a Syracuse recruit who has been out since suffering a less severe knee injury of her own earlier in the season, is expected back Saturday.
