Willowbrook junior Ethan Schuemer has earned Daily Herald MVP honors for his recent high school boys basketball performances.
Ethan Schuemer, Willowbrook: Schuemer helped keep alive Willowbrook's unbeaten season with a pair of West Suburban Gold wins. The 6-foot-5 junior post player scored 28 points, including 12-of-12 free-throw shooting, and grabbed 15 rebounds in a 64-52 win at Morton, then scored 12 points with 5 rebounds in a 74-51 downing of Addison Trail.
Kyle King, St. Charles North: This 6-foot-5, 215-pound center helped the North Stars improve to 6-1 with double-doubles in back-to-back home wins. The junior scored 14 points in a 46-41 comeback win over Batavia on Tuesday, highlighted by an offensive rebound and putback with 12 seconds left that made it a 2-possession game. The junior upped both totals the next night when he scored 18 points and hauled down 14 rebounds in a 57-48 win over Bartlett.
Drew Peterson, Libertyville: College coaches from Northwestern, Davidson and William & Mary scouted the Wildcats' game against Waukegan and got a good glimpse of the 6-foot-7 junior guard's potential. His career-high 33 points and 6 rebounds led the way in a 75-71 victory. He also had 23 points and 11 rebounds in a 53-47 win over Warren.
David Swedura, Prospect: An injury forced the Knights senior into more minutes than usual at point guard, but that didn't dampen his offensive production. Swedura finished with a game-high 17 points with a pair of 3s to help Prospect earn a 49-46 victory against Buffalo Grove, handing the Bison their first MSL East setback.
