Boock's shooting helps Barrington past Buffalo Grove

Barrington sophomore forward Jason Boock said he wouldn't have any trouble sleeping Tuesday night.

Instead of sugarplums dancing through his head, he'll see 3 point baskets and made free throws.

Boock scored 14 of his career-high 20 points in the Broncos' 53-48 win over visiting Buffalo Grove in a Mid-Suburban League crossover.

"He knows how to put the ball in the basket," said Barrington coach Bryan Tucker. "He certainly came to the rescue for us tonight. He wanted the ball in pressure situations."

Boock hit 5 of 8 three-point attempts and 5 of 6 from the free throw line.

Not bad for a player who went from freshman ball up to the varsity.

"Coach liked the way I played in the summer and had me play with the varsity," said Boock. "He gave me a chance."

"He has a great confidence level," said Tucker. "He's got some nice basketball savvy as a sophomore."

An improving Bison (4-2) team had closed a 12-point halftime (28-16) at halftime to take a 46-45 lead with 1:29 left in the game. Jack Vaselaney (14 points) put Buffalo Grove ahead with a mid-range jump shot.

The Bison got the ball right back but Vaselaney was called for an offensive foul with :55 left in the game.

Boock stepped it up.

His 3 with :39 left gave the 6-0 Broncos the lead for good at 48-46. Justin Alpern hit the first of a one-and-bonus for a 49-46 lead with :31 left.

Boock hit 4 free throws down the stretched sandwiched by BG's Colin Calcagno's basket with :09 left.

Boock scored 14 of his teams final 15 points.

"I'm pretty confident in my play right now," said Boock. "When I made my first 3-point basket in the first quarter I became more confident. As a team we could have done some things better but we still played a pretty good game."

So did the Bison.

"I'm happy with our effort and the way our bench played tonight," said Buffalo Grove coach Keith Peterson. "I think as the season moves along they will be one of our strengths. We're getting meaningful minutes. We didn't help ourselves getting into a hole in the first half being down 12. In the end we just didn't make enough plays at the right time."

Caleb Mayhorn played well with 11 points and 6 rebounds. Calcagno netted 13 points.

Tucker also gave praise to guard Anthony Spann.

"Spann (10 points, 4 rebounds) was good on both ends of the court," said Tucker. "He's quick and strong. He worked hard with the weights over the summer to improve his strength. He can be a difference-maker for us."

Jake Parsons added 11 points and Jackson Perkins added 5 points and 7 rebounds.
