Waukegan deals Lake Zurich its first defeat

Waukegan's boys basketball team handed Lake Zurich its first loss of the season on Tuesday with a 59-56 in North Suburban Conference play.

The host Bulldogs got a game-high 27 points from Bryant Brown in a game that was close the whole way.

Michael Bens paced Lake Zurich with 19 points, including four 3s.

The Bears' Ryan Kutsor had 13 points and made three 3s but battled foul trouble throughout the game. Coach Billy Pitcher said Kenny Haynes gave the Bears a "huge lift off the bench," contributing 6 points in eight minutes of court time.

Lake Zurich (4-1, 0-1) finished with a total of 11 3s, including two from Brian Chmiel and one apiece for Chris Trybula and Peter DiCerbo.

Zion-Benton 77, Mundelein 61: The visiting Zee-Bees improved to 2-1 and 1-1 in the North Suburban.

Mundelein fell to 2-4 and 0-1.
